As the Champions League drama continues in Lisbon, Barcelona and Bayern Munich cross swords in a single-leg quarter-final match on Friday night (20:00 kick-off).
Barca haven’t had a nice season due to their inability to lift a single trophy in the 2019/20 season yet but booked their place in the quarter-finals for the 13th consecutive year after battering Napoli in the last 16. Quique Setien’s side now face a formidable game against Bayern, who have beaten them more times in the Champions League than any other club.
The German Champions have also had their ups and downs this term but look stronger than last season under Hans-Dieter Flick, putting Chelsea to the sword 7-1 in the previous round and now entering these latter stages as one of the tournament’s favourites.
Recall that the last time these two sides met, Barca got the better of their German counterparts, beating Bayern in the 2014/15 semi-finals, we await to see how things unfold tonight, whether the Catalan club will repeat that trick and book their ticket in the penultimate round against one of Lyon or Man City.
Barcelona & Bayern Munich’s previous line-ups:
- Barcelona (vs Napoli): Ter-Stegen; Semedo, Pique, Lenglet, Alba; Roberto, Rakitic, De Jong; Griezmann, Messi, Suarez.
- Bayern Munich (vs Chelsea): Neuer; Kimmich, Boateng, Alaba, Davies; Goretzka, Thiago, Gnabry, Muller, Perisic; Lewandowski.
