The Governor of Akwa-Ibom State, Udom Emmanuel has given an order to allow churches to hold services on Sunday in their buildings starting June 7, 2020, amid the rise of COVID-19 cases in Nigeria.
Udom Emmanuel through the state Commissioner of Information, Charles Udoh said the decision to allow churches reopen in the state is based on the guidelines recommended by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) that will be followed by every church under the Association.
The statement reads;

”The State Government is confident that CAN; being a body full of integrity, will do everything within its jurisdiction to ensure that all churches adhere strictly to these guidelines as violators will be prosecuted.”
He added that other security measures have been put in place to ensure nothing goes wrong in each Senatorial District, concluding, he said other social gatherings are still banned like school, weddings, and e.t.c
