Edo Government give hints on schools, religious centres reopening

Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki has given hints that students who are in their final year at Junior Secondary School Class, JSS 3, and Senior Secondary School, SS 3, would be prioritised ahead of the reopening of schools in the State.

Obaseki had earlier given directive that schools in Edo are to shut down in March as part of measures to contain the spread of the Covid-19.

According to a statement released on Sunday, the Governor disclosed that the State government was cooperating with the Federal Ministry of Education to develop guidelines for the reopening of schools, especially for the students who preparing for their exit examinations.

He urged the parents and guardians of the students in primary schools in continuing to utilize the state’s e-learning platforms while they keep staying at home.

The Governor also disclosed that the state government has consulted the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) branch in the state concerning the reopening of places of worship.

“As schools remain closed, rules for reopening are being developed in agreement with the Federal Ministry of Education, most importantly for students in JSS 3 and SS 3 who are preparing for their exit examinations.

“Edo parents and guardians of pupils in primary schools, should continue to utilize our e-learning platforms for their educational needs, while they remain at home’

“After consultations with the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, and other religious bodies, reopening of places of worship will commence soon.

“Just as we continue to expand screening and testing to religious groups/organisations and business establishments, we urge religious organisations and corporate bodies to assist us drive modalities for our new norm and cooperate with the designated health and security agencies in this regard.

“The 10pm to 4am curfew as directed by the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 subsists,” he added.
