Senator Istifanus Gyang who is representing Plateau North Senatorial District has called on President Buhari and the governor of Plateau State, Simon Lalong to address the killing in Miango District of Bassa LGA and other zones of the State and make it stop.
He also called on the Commissioner of Police in the state, saying;
“who have the constitutional responsibility of safeguarding the lives and property of citizens, to enforce law and order and end the killings in Plateau North at large”.

Adding to the statement above, he said the government’s unfitness to “enforce law and order emboldens criminals and incentivizes impunity as has been the case with the killings in Irigwe land”
In a report by Daily Post, Musa Ibrahim Ashoms, Senator Istifanus Gyang Special Assistant on Media and Protocol said the government should not give armed men the chance to cause “unrest and bloodshed” in the communities of the state, causing the people an unpeaceful atmosphere.
He added that;
“I am saddened that Plateau North again woke up this morning of Friday 29th May 2020, with yet another gory report of a night attack at a Noodles Eatery next to Kent Academy, Miango in Bassa local government leaving behind four people dead”
In a report by published earlier, unknown gunmen killed a teacher, a shop owner and three others at a canteen in Miango District of Bassa LGA.
He continued by saying “I am worried that communities of Irigwe Chiefdom in Bassa Local government have been the target of repeated attacks for many years resulting in monumental loss of lives and property with several villages reduced to rubbles.”
He said the area by now should be have stationed “Security Flash Point, deserving and attracting extra security presence and surveillance, to deter and prevent the attacks”.
“it is disturbing that the killer herdsmen and bandits (in direct contrast to other peace-loving herdsmen of Plateau North), are known to the Security agencies while intelligence preceding most of the attacks are often available, yet, the needed action and timely intervention are lacking.”
He further stressted that the lives of his people are at the hands of God as there are no security operatives guarding which exposes them to bandits.
The Deputy Chairman Senate Committee on Defence said in a statement that;
“the President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Plateau State Governor, Commander Operation Safe Haven and the Commissioner of Police who have the constitutional responsibility of safeguarding the lives and property of citizens to take decisive steps to enforce law and order and end the killings in Irigwe Chiefdom in particular and Plateau North at large”.
